Health and Safety at Salt Pump

Dear Salt Pump Community,

We are closely monitoring the potential spread of the coronavirus in Maine and its potential impact on our community and operations. As of March 10, 2020, according to the Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), there are no confirmed cases of 2019 novel coronavirus in Maine and the risk to the general public remains low.

We are also closely reviewing and ensuring our daily practices are consistent with the guidance provided by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Salt Pump understands, together with our community, we have a role in preventing the spread of the coronavirus. We cannot, however, do it alone. While it may sound obvious, among other recommendations, we kindly ask everyone visiting our facility to follow the basic CDC recommendations, including:

  • Please stay home when you are sick or have any doubt that you may be sick.
  • Please wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

We will continue to regularly clean our facility, including rental gear, using appropriate cleaning and disinfecting agents. However, given the nature of climbing, our facility cannot be fully disinfected at all times. For example, climbing holds cannot be fully sanitized after each “touch”.

This month, we have two events on the schedule where we expect larger than usual numbers of people in our facility. The first is our quarterly Solstice/Equinox Member Appreciation Party, currently scheduled for March 19. The second is the USA Climbing (USAC) Sport Climbing Competition, currently scheduled for March 28. We do not plan to cancel these events at this time. However, we may take appropriate actions as necessary, including cancelling one or both events, depending on developments in Maine or elsewhere, as well as guidance from DHHS, CDC, local officials, and USA Climbing.

If you have any questions and/or concerns regarding this message, please do not hesitate to contact us.
