Giant Numbers in the Bouldering Area
“You don’t have to be a mathematician to have a feel for numbers.” – John Forbes Nash, Jr.
While walking through the bouldering area Salt Pump, you may notice that the number tags on boulder problems are now in a large font that you can see from the benches that face the climbing wall. We have created a circuit-style grading environment so that you can come in and try problems without having to focus on the grade.
Each time we reset a color, we number the problems in ascending order from the easiest problem of the color to the most difficult problem of the set. Now you can just look for #1 and start climbing. Easy! That being said, this does not guarantee that Problem #1 of the set is a V0, as it always varies. The grades are still on the back of the tag if your curiosity gets the best of you đ
“When you have mastered numbers, you will in fact no longer be reading numbers, any more than you read words when reading books You will be reading meanings.” – W. E. B. Du Bois
Accompanying this new circuit-style grading model are Salt Pump Recommended Boulder Circuits. We are publishing Recommended Circuits that will focus on a range of styles, staff favorites, as well as circuits that focus on mastering the grade you are at so you can progress to the next one.
“The success of any great moral enterprise does not depend upon numbers.” – William Lloyd Garrison
In the end, we really just want you to enjoy the climbing. Hopefully you fall in love with the movement, feel comfortable enough to try your hardest and not feel judged. We aim to create an environment where no matter your skill level or the type of day youâre having, you will feel confident and be psyched!
